Seven people sustained with non-life-threatening injuries following a school bus accident that took place on Monday morning. One child sustained a serious injury but officials contend it is non-life-threatening.
The five students were all treated at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital and released. Officials say the students who were not transported to the hospital were either taken to the school or evaluated by a health professional to make sure they were ok. The bus driver sustained injuries as well as the driver of another vehicle that was also involved in the crash.
The incident occurred t Maryland Avenue and Falls Road in Rockville at about 8:30 a.m. Monday. Authorities explain that a silver Jeep Cherokee was heading east on Falls Road and struck the school bus at the intersection while attempting to make a left turn.
The students on the bus were on their way to Ritchie Park Elementary School. The bus had been transporting roughly 45 students ages five to ten years old.
Due to the accident, traffic was backed up for some time. The driver of the Jeep was charged with failing to grant the right of way.
