Binghamton, NY- An upstate man is facing multiple charges after he struck two pedestrians at an intersection, killing one, and fled the scene late Saturday night.
Police said Kevin Buie, 29, ran the red light while turning left the intersection of Main Street and Front Street. Witnesses told police that they saw a black Plymouth plow through the intersection striking two pedestrians, both men were between the ages 35 and 45. He then fled the scene.
A witness told Pressconnects.com that one of the men went airborne. The car had visible damage to the windshield.
One of the injured pedestrians died after arriving at the hospital. The other man was still in the hospital Monday morning. Neither of the men has been identified.
A recent report from the accident lawyers at NHTSA showed that pedestrian fatalities are on the rise.
What makes this story more shocking is that Buie was released from jail on Friday, following and assault. In that incident Buie allegedly tried to strangle a woman and threatened her with a gun. He fled the scene of that incident as well. He is facing multiple charges for the assault.
As for the pedestrian accident, Buie is facing felony charges of leaving the scene, but other charges are pending.
